Let's Get Nirvana Straight

On February 17th, Sunday, we gather to learn about the meaning of "nirvana" in Buddhism:

Sunday Service: Nirvana In the Lotus Sutra,

Dharma Teacher Masao's Spiritual Journey

February 16, Sunday, 10:00AM-11:45AM PT (Hybrid)

What is "nirvana"? A classical Buddhist answer to this question will be to say, "enlightenment" or a spiritual revelation of the end of suffering.

If nirvana is the goal of our Buddhist practice, what still matters to us after achieving this goal? Answer to this question can be found in the 16th chapter of the Lotus Sutra.

This Sunday, let us experience how it feels to witness Buddha's nirvana by chanting and candle lighting, and explore Buddha's "post-nirvana" practice according to a story of the Lotus Sutra.

During the group chant, let us recite Chapters 2, 16 and 25 from KYOTEN (instead of Chapters 2, 10, 16, and 20 as we normally do).

After learning the Buddhist idea of nirvana, we will hear a spiritual journey story of our Dharma Teacher, Masao Tsuneyoshi who shows that terms such as "Buddhism" or "Lotus Sutra" are verb.
